Season Planning Master Template

Map out your entire season — practices, games, tournaments, and rest days — in one comprehensive planning framework.

Season Planning Master Template

*“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” — Abraham Lincoln*

A well-planned season is the foundation of a successful program. This template walks you through every layer of season planning.

Step 1: Identify Your Season Parameters

Fill in these before planning anything else:

●Season Start Date: _______________
●Season End Date: _______________
●Total Weeks: _______________
●Typical Practice Days: M / T / W / Th / F / Sa / Su
●Games Per Week (average): _______________
●Major Tournament/Championship Date: _______________

Step 2: Divide Into Phases

Step 3: Map the Calendar

For each week, define:

●Theme: What is the main coaching focus this week?
●Training Load: Low / Medium / High
●Game Days: Circle them
●Rest Days: Mark them — they are non-negotiable
●Special Events: tournaments, parent meetings, etc.

Step 4: Monthly Check-In Questions

At the end of each month, ask yourself:

●Are we on pace with physical development goals?
●Are team relationships healthy?
●Have I communicated effectively with parents?
●What needs to change in the next month?

Step 5: Post-Season Evaluation

Team Performance: Did we achieve our stated goals?

Player Development: Which players improved most? Why?

Coaching: What would I do differently?

Operations: What administrative processes need improvement?
