Improve first touch, communication, and movement off the ball with this high-intensity passing circuit. Works for all age groups and skill levels.

4-Corner Passing Drill

Setup

Set up 4 cones in a 15x15 yard square. Divide players evenly at each corner.

[A] ------> [B]

| v

[D] <------ [C]

Basic Version (Beginners)

●Player at A passes to B and follows their pass (joins B’s line)
●Player at B receives, passes to C, follows pass
●Continue around the square
●Ball moves clockwise; players follow their pass

Key coaching points:

●Pass with the inside of the foot
●First touch should set up the next pass direction
●Communicate with a call before receiving (“yes!” or player’s name)

Intermediate Version

●Add a second ball starting from the opposite corner (C)
●Players must communicate to avoid collision
●Increase speed gradually

Advanced Version

●Balls go clockwise; players go counter-clockwise
●Requires anticipation and timing
●Add a 1-2 combination at each corner before passing on

Coaching Notes

“The drill only has value at game speed. Once they have the pattern, push the tempo.”

●Stop the drill if tempo drops. Reset and restart.
●Count consecutive passes without errors as a team challenge
●Progression: Add a defender in the middle (creates 4v1 rondo feel)

Common errors:

●*Telegraphing the pass* — look away before passing
●*Poor first touch* — too heavy, too soft
●*Not following the pass* — remind players: always follow
